Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which events are in-person and which ones are virtual?
Opening Weekend (Saturday, July 13 -14, 2024) and Closing Week are in-person events. We also have a select number of special in-person events from July 15 - September 13. For example, on July 25, we are hosting an in-person Agent Author discussion with Meredith Kaffel Simonoff (The Gernert Company) and Alejandro Heredia (author, LOCA). The craft talks and master classes scheduled from July 15th to September 13 are virtual. Please click here for details.
For those who cannot join us in person, we’re so pleased to offer a VIRTUAL PROGRAM at half the cost of the full festival ticket. Virtual programming includes Opening Weekend publishing panel, “What Are Agents Looking For?,” July 27th Master Class, “The Art of Excavation: Writing as Investigation, Unearthing Memories & Selves” w/ Kenzie Allen, and much more.

3. How do I register?

Click the link in the banner of this webpage to register for Festival Weekend.

If you purchased Festival Weekend ticket, you will be able to attend the virtual master classes and craft talk offered between July 15 and September 13.

Register for the Closing Week events with an email to events@kwelijournal.org with “LitFest24 Closing Week Registration” in the subject line. Please note that there is limited seating and it is First Come, First Served.

4. What if I make a mistake on my registration form?
Please read CAREFULLY through all questions to ensure you are choosing and filling in what you intend to. Once you submit your registration, you can no longer make changes yourself. However, if you’ve incorrectly listed something, contact Chantel Kelly at events@kwelijournal.org as soon as possible.
5. What if I want to cancel part or all of my registration?
If you cancel your registration before July 6, you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee.
Any cancellation on or after July 7, cannot be refunded.
Note, refunds may not be issued immediately. Please wait two weeks after the festival before inquiring.
6. Will recordings of the events be available to attendees later?
We will NOT be recording in-person sessions for #KweliLitFest24. However, if you subscribe to our newsletter, we will be sharing highlights from various sessions after the festival.
7. Are scholarships available for the festival?
YES, Kweli has a limited amount of scholarships for first-time, unpublished, and un-agented writers who exhibit a financial need. If you are in need of a scholarship, you must complete an application form and submit a statement of financial need, a short essay explaining your interest in attending the festival, and a writing sample.
The scholarship application portal opens on June 29th and closes on July 1st. THE DEADLINE IS MONDAY, JULY 1ST, 11:00PM EST. Please note that travel expenses and lodging are not covered by the scholarship.

10. When will I find out about my scholarship decision?
We assess scholarship applications on a rolling basis. We get many applications every year, so the earlier you apply, the sooner we will be able to provide a decision.
